Sportsmanship

  1. Athletic programs are one of the most visible representations of the St. Raphael Catholic Church and St. Raphael Catholic School community. Quite frankly, we travel throughout the community and state wearing our church and school name on uniforms, apparel, etc. and serve as representatives of our institution. It is extremely important to remember that when we participate in athletic events we, through our actions and deeds, represent the entire St. Raphael community. We view this as an exciting opportunity to set a visible example of our positive Christian values in the community.

  2. The definition of sportsmanship at SRCS is to act in a way that is consistent with the Christian values that have been set forth by the school. All student-athletes, coaches, and parents will be expected to act in the spirit of good sportsmanship.

  3. All student-athletes will be expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship at all athletic events (practice, games, etc.). Failure to comply could result, at the discretion of the Athletic Director, in suspension from the team or permanent removal from the team.

  4. Arguing with officials and opponents will not be tolerated. Any complaint should be communicated to the coach or Athletic Director. Student-athletes should never take matters into their own hands. Fighting of any kind, at any time, during an athletic event will result in an immediate suspension and will be thoroughly reviewed.

  5. Coaches are charged with teaching our young people the skills for the sport that they are responsible for. More importantly, they are to be held responsible for their actions on the playing field and teaching, by example, good sportsmanship. Failure to do so will result in a meeting with the Athletic Director and possible suspension of coaching duties.

  6. The role of the parents and spectators withing the SRCS athletic program is to support the sutdent-athletes in a positive way. In the event that a parent feels dissatisfied with something in the athletic department, they are responsible to first make their concerns known to either the coach or the Athletic Director.

As is the case in athletic competition at any leve, we cannot assume that all officials will be fair and competent in their actions. Regardless of the actions of game officials, it is critical that parents set a positive example in dealing with game officiating.

Parents are also expected to conduct themselves with sportsmanship at all athletic events, regardless of the situation. Failure to meet this requirement could result in immediate ejection and possible suspension from future SRCS athletic events.
